He further picked all-rounder AB de Villiers and Test talismans Brain Lara and Inzamam-ul-Haq in the middle order.

Surprisingly, in the all-rounders category, Gambhir skipped Shahid Afridi and opted for Abdul Razzaq. The Indian head coach topped the list of bowlers with Muttiah Muralitharan, Shoaib Akhtar and Moreen Morkel.

Gambhir's affection for Morkel is also evident from the fact that the former Indian opener nominated Morkel to the BCCI for the post of bowling coach, which resulted in the former South African seamer being appointed as India's bowling coach and will take charge for the upcoming series against Bangladesh from September 19.
