Three people are dead and three people are missing after a fire engulfed a house in Waldorf, Maryland, on Sunday morning, according to officials.
At about 8:40 a.m., the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 3000 block of Declaration Court North to a report of a big fire with people trapped inside. Firefighters say it took about an hour to get the fire under control.
According to Master Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire at a news conference, nine people lived in the home. Three people were rescued from the house and three people were pronounced dead. Officials say they are searching for three more people in the house.
One firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical emergency.
Crews from the Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services and officials from the Deputy State Fire Marshals and Charles County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene, continuing to search for more victims.
