Arlington, Fairfax school districts sue Education Dept. for withholding funding over gender policies

A young person was arrested and multiple firearms were seized Wednesday after police in Washington, D.C., found an “alarming” social media post with a possible threat to a school, law enforcement officials said.

The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) said its Criminal Investigation Division found the post referencing a “potential threat” to a D.C. public school. The name of the school was not released.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and MTPD officers searched a home, found multiple firearms and arrested the juvenile, the agencies said.

The agencies didn’t give further details on the “alarming” social media post or say what charges the juvenile faces. The suspect’s exact age is not available.

“As part of our participation in a longstanding ATF task force, we’re proud of our officers who disrupted this significant public safety threat,” MTPD said in a social media post.

Officials tell us this is an active investigation, and they won’t release any other details at this time.

The D.C. Attorney General’s Office is now handling the case.

Metro General Manager Randy Clarke said he’s proud of the officers involved.

“I want to thank the incredible Transit Police officers whose quick work prevented a very serious threat to our community especially in light of the tragic circumstances in Minn yesterday,” Clarke wrote on X Thursday, referencing a shooting that killed two students at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Earlier, the ATF posted about the shooting, saying special agents “quickly intervened and interrupted what could’ve possibly led to a school shooting incident,” on X that included a picture with six firearms and ammunition. It’s unclear if those were the firearms seized.
