Curfew in effect for parts of Northeast DC this weekend

D.C. is implementing a temporary curfew for parts of Northeast to keep young people from gathering in large groups after dark.

The curfew zone covers a large area between South Dakota Avenue, Bladensburg Road and V Street Northeast.

Starting Friday, kids 17 and younger are not allowed to gather in groups of nine or more within those boundaries from 8 to 11 p.m. Some activities are exempt from the curfew, police said.

At 11 p.m., D.C.’s citywide curfew takes effect and runs through 6 a.m. for everyone under the age of 18, not just groups.

The Northeast curfew zone will last through Monday. The citywide curfew is in effect through Aug. 31.

This is the third time this summer D.C. police implemented a “Juvenile Curfew Zone.” The U Street corridor and Navy Yard neighborhoods were under weekend curfews after incidents involving large groups of teens.
