DNC headquarters searched for bomb due to threat later deemed ‘not credible'

U.S. Capitol Police searched Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters on Capitol Hill on Thursday after a bomb threat was received and then found to be “not credible,” the party said.

Senate offices received a notice informing staff to avoid the headquarters as police responded to an “incident.”

“Capitol Police are responding to an incident at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Headquarters. Staff are asked to remain clear of the police activity. More updates are forthcoming as the situation evolves,” the message said.

U.S. Capitol Police said after being alerted to the threat, they did not find anything outside of the building. Out of an abundance of caution, they were checking the interior of the building.

“This afternoon, there was a bomb threat at the DNC headquarters that was determined not to be credible by the U.S. Capitol Police,” DNC spokeswoman Hannah Muldavin told reporters. “Out of an abundance of caution, Capitol Police is conducting an interior sweep of the building. As DNC Chair Ken Martin has said, political violence in every form has no place in our country. We’re grateful to the U.S. Capitol Police and DNC building security for responding quickly and professionally.”

The scare comes amid heightened security on Sept. 11 and in the wake of the killing of Charlie Kirk a day earlier.

The Associated Press contributed reporting.
