Virginia AG candidates debate amid Democrat's text controversy

President Donald Trump is proposing a large arch along the Potomac River, near the Arlington Memorial Bridge.

Trump showed models of the arch, similar to the famed Arc de Triomphe in Paris, at an event at the White House on Wednesday evening.

He said Memorial Circle, which is across the Potomac River but still within the border of D.C., has long been a prime spot for a monument.

“For years and years it sat, and every time somebody rides over that beautiful bridge going right to the Lincoln Memorial – so beautiful, right? They literally say, ‘Something’s supposed to be here,’” he said.

Visitors to D.C. gave the plan mixed reviews.

“I don’t know if it’s good to copy something,” one visitor said.

“I don’t see why not. For America’s 250th birthday, we might as well give America something,” another said.

“It’s a lot of money! More money than we supposedly have to spend,” a third said.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much such a project would cost or when construction would potentially begin. The White House said it had no information to release beyond what Trump said.
