Public school students in Montgomery County, Maryland, will have classes into late June to make up for days missed because of January’s snow storm.
On Thursday, Montgomery County Public Schools announced the following makeup dates:
- Thursday, June 18
- Monday, June 22
- Wednesday, June 24 (half day)
- Thursday, June 25 (half day)
Wednesday, June 17 was originally set to be the last day of the school year.
“We understand these changes may affect family schedules, childcare arrangements, and summer plans. While extending the school year right now can present challenges, MCPS must meet the state’s mandated instructional time requirements. We wish this year’s calendar saga was less complicated and less uncertain – unfortunately, it is not,” the school system’s announcement said in part.
MCPS previously said March 20, which coincides with the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, would be a makeup day. But that will remain a day off for students, the school system said.
