2 suspects tried to lure 4-year-old girl with candy at Virginia park

Two suspects offered a 4-year-old girl candy in an attempt to abduct her at a park in Manassas, Virginia, on Sunday evening, police say.

The girl was at Dean Park just before 9 p.m. when the suspects approached her, the Manassas City Police Department said. Her 6-year-old sister screamed for their mother when she saw what was happening, causing the suspects to run off, according to police. The mom quickly grabbed her kids and got help from an off-duty police officer, police said.

A short time later, officers saw someone matching the description of one of the suspects. He was a male wearing all black, including a face mask and a black hoodie with a white logo on the back, police said.

When officers tried to stop him, he took off on an electric bicycle via Winter’s Branch Trail, police said.

The second male suspect wore all white, police said. Investigators have not released anymore identifying information about the suspects.

Police said both suspects were in the area of the soccer fields at the park before and after the incident.

Authorities are asking residents of the Wellington Community to review their surveillance camera footage for any video of the suspects coming and going from the park.

Anyone with information can call 702-257-8041 or email the detective on the case at aspeights@manassasva.gov.
