Women killed by falling trees in Montgomery County, Prince George's County

One woman was hit and killed by a falling tree in a Prince George’s County neighborhood during storms Thursday night as another woman was killed by a tree in a park in Montgomery County, authorities say.

A tree fell on a woman as she walked in the 11700 block of N. Marlton Avenue in Upper Marlboro at about 8:40 p.m., Prince George’s County police confirmed. She was pronounced dead.

In Matthew Henson Trail in Montgomery County, someone called for help after seeing a woman trapped under a tree, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman said.

Emergency crews responded at about 9 p.m. and found a woman “who had died as a result of injuries sustained when a tree fell and struck her while she was walking along the trail,” Maryland-National Capital Park Police said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” they said.

No additional information was released as of midday Friday.
