A child died in a storm drain during Thursday evenings storms in Maryland, NBC News confirmed.
The boy was playing with a group of kids during flash flooding when he was swept into a drainage pipe, WBAL-TV 11 News reported.
About 50 first responders — including a water rescue team — spent about an hour trying to rescue the boy at Watersville Apartments in Mount Airy, a town west of Baltimore, Carroll County Fire and EMS Chief Michael Robinson said in a statement.
“The child’s body was recovered and pronounced dead on the scene,” Robinson said.
The boy’s age and identify haven’t been released.
The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating.
Storms lashed the East Coast from Virginia to Connecticut Thursday afternoon and evening, flooding roadways and downing trees.
