D.C. police arrested a 17-year-old on Friday for a late October shooting that left five people injured near Howard University’s campus.
It’s the first arrest made in the case since the weekend of the shooting, when a gunman opened fire near Howard during the school’s homecoming celebrations.
Two other people were arrested on Oct. 24, the night of the shooting, and charged with carrying a pistol without a license — but police said further investigation showed they were not involved in the shooting that night.
The shooting injured three adult men, one adult woman and a juvenile male. Police found the victims in the 600 block of Howard Place NW, after hearing gunshots just before 8:30 p.m. that evening.
Officers gave lifesaving care to the victims before all five were taken to the hospital.
The woman injured in the shooting is still in the hospital, police said. All of the male victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
After reviewing surveillance footage from the night of the shooting, police said, detectives saw one suspect opening fire after an argument between two groups.
Additional video from nearby CCTV, private cameras and MetroRail cameras led to hours of footage, police said. Reviewing that footage led police to identify 17-year-old Kaevaughn Dudley of Northeast D.C. as their suspect.
Dudley was arrested and charged as an adult on Friday for assault with intent to kill, involving a gun, police said.
