Len Thompson, a 79-year-old Virginia man who went missing Monday, has been found dead, according to Herndon police.
Search and rescue workers in Troutville, Virginia found his body Saturday, Herndon police said in a post on X.
Thompson had last been seen in Sterling, Virginia. He was diabetic and didn’t have his insulin.
The next morning, his car was found in Roanoke, Virginia, but there was no sign of him. The car had a flat tire and was in the right travel lane of I-81, not on the shoulder.
Tara Byrne, Thompson’s daughter, along with other family members and friends did their own search hoping to find some clues. They went to the Exxon gas station on Pacific Blvd in Sterling where he was last seen.
The family says Virginia State police did an extensive search with specially trained canines and infrared equipment. Herndon sent an investigator to Roanoke as well, and he used a drone to search from the air, but there was still no sign of Thompson.
The circumstances around how Thompson was found Saturday were not immediately available.
