Did someone say 60 degrees?! Yep, Storm Team4 did!

Sure, that warm weather comes with showers, but we’ll be getting our steps in with rain boots this weekend. How about a trip to the Glenstone Museum or a stroll on the Great Falls’ boardwalk? Thanks, January, for being nice to our New Year’s resolutions for once.

    Winter Skate Spectacular
Dec. 27 to Feb. 9, National Building Museum, $20 (adult)
    🔗 Details

A synthetic skating rink inside the National Building Museum lets you glide around without braving winter weather (but you can still get hot cocoa at the café)!

The museum promises “an even bigger, better, and brighter” skating experience for the second year. Catholic University students are building a dramatic, 180-by-55-foot art installation overhead called The Wave. It’s still under construction, but you can see the rendering above.

Daytime tickets include museum admission, or go after-hours and skate for two hours.

    🔗 Details

Calling all Caps fans in Northern Virginia! Rock the Rink is headed to the Reston Town Center Ice Skating Pavilion. Wear your Capitals gear for $4 off skate rentals, then watch the game on a big screen (it starts at 8 p.m.). There will be fire pits, a live DJ and fan giveaways, too.

    Wreaths Out volunteer clean-up
Sat., 8 a.m., Arlington National Cemetery
    🔗 Details

Every year, volunteers place tens of thousands of wreaths on gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery in a moving tribute to those who served this country.

Come January, it’s time to clean up the wreaths. And you can help during Wreaths Out starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Thousands of volunteers are expected, so we suggest taking transit (or a ride-share) to the Arlington Cemetery Metro station. However, the Welcome Center Parking Garage will open to the public at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dress warmly and wear thick work gloves, but pack lightly.

Volunteers must show a photo ID and go through a security screening. You can’t bring large bags, backpacks or insulated beverage containers. You are allowed to bring a PVC pipe, rope or a broomstick to help pick up wreaths, but no sharp metal objects (for example, the metal parts of a shovel) are permitted.

Looking for something closer to your home in D.C. or Maryland? The Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery (SAHNC) in the Fort Totten area will also host a Wreaths Out volunteer event.
