Three people were stabbed in a fight involving more than 20 teenagers in downtown Silver Spring Monday night, according to Montgomery County police.
Police say the fight broke out at about 6 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Wayne and Ramsey Avenue during rush hour.
A vendor who works nearby described seeing a large group of young people fighting. Marco Rosas spoke to News4 in Spanish about what happened.
Rosas says he yelled “police” because he was concerned when he saw several boys begin to hit each other. The boys then scattered and ran off in different directions, Rosas said.
Three young people were stabbed and were taken to a nearby hospital, according to police. They are expected to recover. A fourth person was also hurt but declined medical treatment, officials say.
Police say it is unclear what led up to the fight and are investigating the cause of it.
Rosas said he’s a father himself and was saddened to learn multiple young people had been stabbed. He said he sees young people fighting there several times a year.
Police arrested one teenager but didn’t give any more details about what happened.
“It’s scary, it’s very scary,” a neighbor named Adam McCrensky said. “I’m going to be more cautious and careful of my safety and surroundings.”
