Fairfax County police are turning to the public to help solve the 2021 shooting death of a 19-year-old college student in the Alexandria section of the county.
Ronald Worthy Jr. had just finished his freshman year at Virginia State University. While he had previously lived in D.C., he was spending the summer with his grandmother at her home in the Beacon Hill apartments.
“Ronald was pursuing many things in his life in addition to his education,” said Det. Thomas Gadell with Fairfax County Police. “Ronald also had his own clothing line that was starting to be kind of up and coming.”
But when Worthy’s grandmother came home the evening of July 27, 2021 she found him on the couch, dead of multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
“I want them to find the person that took my heart away from me,” Worthy’s grandmother told News4 over the phone Tuesday.
While police can offer few details about the crime scene or whether there were signs of a struggle, they do say this did not appear to be a random attack and there were no signs of forced entry at the time.
Detectives believe there are people in the community who have important information that will lead to an arrest and help close the 2021 case.
“This case has remained a priority of myself as lead detective, and we continue to pursue and investigate all the leads, but we are asking for the public’s assistance in any information that might assist investigators as we continue,” Gadell said.
