There was much heartbreak and pain in Glover Park Monday afternoon as family and friends gathered to honor the life of 34-year-old Rayven Edwards,
D.C. police say Edwards was shot and killed in front of her three young kids by her ex-boyfriend, who was the father of one of those kids, on Feb. 11 in Glover Park.
D.C. police say the shooter, Stefan Jeter, also shot Edwards’ 10-year-old daughter in the arm. He later killed himself. Monday afternoon, the daughter had to be taken back to the hospital for some follow up medical care. Her family says she is now doing okay, and she was at the vigil honoring her mom,
People at the vigil shared hugs, tears and fond memories. They all wore purple because it was Edwards’ favorite color.
Family and friends described her as a bright light and an incredibly kind, caring mom who loved her children more than anything. She would take them to the playground for hours and always picked out the perfect birthday gifts. She also loved theater and writing and had gone to the University of the District of Columbia.
Edwards’ family said they wanted to honor her memory and also raise awareness of domestic violence.
“I want you to know of Rayven’s quiet strength, her resilience,” said her aunt, Cathy Lawton. “I want you to know of her maternal energy. She has three wonderful, beautiful children, and she took a lot, lots and lots of care to protect them.”
