DC police to enforce youth curfew in 2 zones this weekend

The Metropolitan Police Department will enforce two juvenile curfew zones in the District this weekend, expanding on the nightly curfew.

Starting the night of Friday, March 6, and stretching into the weekend, MPD will enforce the curfew in areas near the U Street corridor and Navy Yard for teens under age 18.

“Within a Juvenile Curfew Zone, persons under 18 are prohibited from gathering in a group of nine (9) or more in any public place or on the premises of any establishment unless engaged in certain exempted activities,” a statement said.

The zones will start at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. The perimeters of the zones are as follows:

Navy Yard

The Navy Yard curfew zone extends from:

  • I-695 on the north side
  • 8th Street SE on the east side
  • Anacostia River on the south side
  • South Capitol Street SE on the west side

U Street corridor

The U Street corridor curfew zone extends from:

  • V Street from 15th Street to Vermont Avenue NW on the north side
  • Vermont Avenue from V Street to Florida Avenue  NW forming a corner of the perimeter
  • Florida Avenue and 9th Street NW on the east side
  • T Street NW on the south side
  • 15th Street from T Street to V Street NW on the west side

A citywide curfew will follow, starting at 11 p.m. and ending the next morning at 6 a.m.

Such curfews come after the Juvenile Curfew Second Emergency Amendment Act of 2025 was passed late last year. The act gives the MPD chief the “authority to order a Juvenile Curfew Zone in an area where large groups of youths are gathering or intend to gather in a manner that poses a risk of substantial harm to public safety,” the statement said.

Editor’s note (Friday, March 6, 2026, 1:05 p.m.): This article has been updated from a previous version to clarify that the curfew zones will not be physically blocked off.
