A man who broke into several houses in Northern Virginia at night while nude has been arrested, police say.
Investigators were staking out the 14000 block of Gatwick Square in Centreville early Monday morning in the hopes of catching the suspect who was caught on camera creeping around homes wearing nothing but shoes and a piece of clothing wrapped around his head. He’s suspected of lurking in the same neighborhood at least four times in March.
Officers hid in bushes in an effort to spot the suspect, Fairfax County police said.
Then, just before 5 a.m., a detective who was monitoring surveillance cameras spotted a naked man walking nearby.
Police launched a drone within 30 seconds to find the suspect, but the man ran off when detectives tried to stop him, police said.
The suspect then jumped a fence into the backyard of a home on Gatwick Square, police said.
Detectives pinpointed the suspect’s location using a drone and obtained a search warrant for the home. They arrested 21-year-old Sedrick Walker at the home a short time later, police said.
Investigators said they connected Walker to the recent string of burglaries. Walker has no previous criminal history, police said.
Walker was charged with multiple counts of burglary, attempted burglary and indecent exposure. He’s being held in jail without bond.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call 703-814-7000 and ask to speak with a detective.
