A DC boy left his trumpet on a Metrobus. Here's how the driver saved the day

Earlier this week, a D.C. fifth grader forgot his trumpet on the Metrobus on his way home from school. But it turns out, a good Samaritan was watching out for him — the bus driver himself, who helped save the day on his day off.

“I couldn’t find it and I was like, ‘Yep, I lost it.”

Fifth grader Theo Littlepage had left his prized possession on the bus.

His mom filed a report with Metro, but it can often take days to recover lost items, and there was a big band recital the next day. But just when all hope seemed lost, Theo’s brother stopped him at school the next morning with good news.

“He was like, ‘Guess what? The Metrobus driver came to the school and dropped off your trumpet!'” Theo said.

As it turns out, Metrobus driver Michael Fabio remembered seeing the boys in their school uniforms every day. When he found the wayward wind instrument on his bus, Fabio decided to bring it back the next day, even though he was off.

“I wanted him to get his instrument,” Fabio said. “I have four kids of my own, and I’ve been through the recitals and the karate practice and the ballets, or, you know, all that stuff. So I knew how important it was for him to have this instrument.”

Theo said he’s extremely grateful.

His mother, Melissa Littlepage, told News4: “It’s such a beautiful story of how D.C. is the best ‘small town’ big city. People look out for each other; people take care of each other.”

The Littlepage family is hoping to see Fabio again soon, to thank him in person.

As for future bus commutes … will Theo keep track of his possessions from now on?

“Uh, probably not,” his mom said, laughing. “But it’s OK, and it’s good to know that someone’s looking out for us, and I’m just so grateful.”
