If you have plans to fly in the D.C. area this summer, check if America 250 events affect your plans.
No flights are scheduled at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) after noon on July 4, airport officials announced Tuesday. Flights for part of July 3 and on a list of dates in June, July and August also may be affected.
“Ticketed passengers on flights at Reagan National Airport (DCA) this summer are advised to closely monitor the status of their flights for adjustments during America 250 celebrations in Washington, D.C. Many events will include downtown flyovers or other aerial displays such as fireworks or parachute jumps, which will affect flights periodically at Reagan National,” the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said in a statement.
They listed these major events that may affect flights in and out of DCA:
- June 24-25: Great American State Fair opening
- June 28: Military Appreciation Day
- July 3-4: Independence Day rehearsals and celebrations
- July 10: Great American State Fair closeout flyover and parachute jump
- Aug. 22-23: DC Grand Prix
Flight schedules may be adjusted to avoid “pre-planned airspace closures or “delayed by temporary holds as coordinated through air traffic control communications,” they said.
On July 3, no DCA flights will be scheduled for “several hours in the early afternoon,” officials said.
Passengers are advised to double-check flight times and check in with their airline.
