The naked body of a 67-year-old woman was found in her senior living unit, and police say her daughter and the daughter’s girlfriend are suspects in the killing. A search is underway for both women.
The victim, Hilde Henderson, was found dead in her home at the Charter House community on 1316 Fenwick Lane in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, on the morning of May 26, after police were called for a welfare check.
“So, we were called for a welfare check. And apparently she had been in the apartment, and she had been dead for four days,” Montgomery County police spokesperson Shiera Goff said.
The Charter House is a 55-and-older community, but it’s not a nursing home and the victim was living independently, which accounted for the delay in delay in finding the victim, police said.
Police say they’re looking for the victim’s daughter, 29-year-old Vanessa Tjongarero-Henderson, and Vanessa’s girlfriend, 36-year-old Samantha Raebel. Both are facing charges of first-degree murder.
“We do believe they are together. We are not certain as to whether or not they’re in the area,” Goff said. “We are asking anyone who has information as to their whereabouts to contact either Crime Solvers or the Montgomery County department of police.”
This is not the first time both suspects had a run-in with police. Last November, Raebel was arrested for DUI in Pennsylvania. That same month, Tjongarero-Henderson was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle in D.C.
News4 reached out to Affordable Homes & Communities, the company that owns Charter House. They told us they’re “saddened by the passing of Ms. Henderson” and that they’re fully cooperating with the police.
Anyone with information about the crime or the suspects is asked to call 911 or submit a tip online at crimesolversmcmd.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
