Fairfax City police shoot man allegedly armed with knife

A man is in the hospital after he was shot by an officer in Fairfax City Saturday.

The shooting happened just after midnight at a Wawa on Fairfax Boulevard.

The Fairfax City Police Department claims that the man was holding a knife and refused to drop it when officers told him to do so.

The officer who fired the shot is on administrative leave.

Everything started when police received reports of a person holding a knife inside the Wawa.

In a press release, the city police department said when they arrived, the officers found a man standing inside the store right by the front door of the business holding a knife. The officers then asked the man to drop the knife, but he instead stepped outside, still holding the knife. He was shot by one of the officers and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There has been no update on his condition as of Saturday evening.

Jimmy, who works in another store in the area, said he frequently sees police on Fairfax Boulevard and that crime is a concern for him and his team.

“It’s kind of like enough is enough,” he told News4. “This is Fairfax City. It’s supposed to be a very safe area, and yet, there’s, you know, shootings and robberies and, you know, knife attacks. It’s just that it’s getting a little crazy.”

This is the first officer shooting in the City of Fairfax this year. News4 spoke to some people that came to refuel and visit the Wawa Saturday. Who said that they’re just shocked to hear that this happened.
