Northern Virginia soccer coach accused of scamming athletes out of $60K

A Northern Virginia soccer coach is accused of scamming athletes out of almost $60,000.

The Sporting Soccer Academy, created by Ahmed Mohamed, promised students a travel summer camp in Italy, Fairfax County police said.

“Mohamed collected money from victims under the false pretense of promised travel, camp arrangements, and lodging,” they said in a statement.

Mohamed, 31, of Fairfax, started the academy in December 2025 and, since then, the police department’s Financial Crimes Unit has identified 13 victims. Each alleged victim lost between $2,000 and $12,000, police said.

“It seemed he had built relations with the victims, ultimately. When he opened his own business, it, on paper, was a legitimate LLC. And then he used that LLC to defraud the victims,” Lt. Michael Connor said.

He was arrested in the 4100 block of Monument Court in Fair Oaks on June 30 and taken to the adult detention center, where he was charged with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud. He was released on his own recognizance.

An investigation found that Mohamed appealed to some alleged victims thanks to his employment by the popular Alexandria Soccer Association.

The Alexandria Soccer Association serves kids and adults. It wasn’t immediately clear what age group Mohamed said his foreign trips were for.

The association said Mohamed is no longer an employee.

“The conduct that led to his arrest did not involve ASA or any of its programs or operations. At the time of the alleged conduct, Mr. Mohamed was acting independently to promote his own private program offerings,” they said in a statement.
