Travelers fly out of DCA before ground stops July 3 and 4

The July Fourth travel rush started early at Reagan Washington National Airport as travelers made a dash to avoid ground stops scheduled because of America 250 events.

All flight operations will be paused on:

  • Friday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 4, from noon to midnight

No flights will come in or head out.

“I’m getting out before it starts and coming back in when it’s over,” one traveler said.

Another said she was “very pleased” to avoid the shutdown.

Flights will be restricted because of military flyovers and flyovers for the holiday.

American Airlines told News4 earlier this season that they adjusted their schedules due to FAA restrictions. United Airlines said they planned for the restrictions and scheduled accordingly.

Travelers are urged to check flight schedules with their airline.
