‘Not giving up': Family searches for justice as son's suspected killer still on the run

A Prince George’s County family is asking for help in finding their son’s killer.

Andre Cox Jr. was gunned down outside an apartment building nearly six years ago. Police made one arrest, but the man detectives believe pulled the trigger is still on the run.

“Knowing this person is able to breathe air, can run around doing whatever he wants and then we still wanting our son — it’s a lot,” said his mom.

Shaketa Robinson and Andre Cox Sr. lost their son in October 2020. He was gunned down outside the Overland apartment complex in Landover, Maryland just days after celebrating his 22nd birthday.

“Andre was a basketball player, a good kid, loved to play and joke, loved to laugh,” Robinson said.

The last several years have been hard on his parents. While police made an arrest in the case, the man believed to be the shooter, Dayvon Gordon, remains on the loose.

“It’s frustrating as time goes on because you begin to believe in your mind that this individual feels like, ‘Yeah, I’m undefeated,’” Andre Cox Sr. said.

Detectives believe Andre Cox Jr. was targeted and that the suspect went to the apartment complex with the intent to shoot him.

A rifle was recovered in the case.

“Hunted down like an animal, almost to speak,” Andre Cox Sr. said. “I mean you don’t get no more premeditated than that.”

Police released two photos of Gordon, who they say changed his appearance after the shooting.

The head of the homicide unit says the case has not been forgotten, and anyone harboring Gordon would also be held accountable.

“It’s apparent he probably has gotten comfortable with living out here, and our goal is to make him uncomfortable and make sure people are aware that he’s wanted for this heinous crime,” said Lt. Shane Goudreau with Prince George’s County police.

Andre Cox Jr.’s parents are asking for anyone in the community who may have seen Gordon or knows where he may be to come forward as they pursue peace of mind and justice for their son.

Up to $10,000 in reward money being offered for help in locating the murder suspect.

“So it’s just a matter of time before you’re captured,” Robinson said

“I’m not giving up,” said Andre Cox Sr. “I’m not giving up at all till I get closure. We are steadfast in that.”
