National Geographic Museum celebrates reopening with selfie pop-ups around DC

Talk about a glow-up!

National Geographic’s Museum of Exploration hosts its grand reopening Friday, and it’s celebrating with pop-up displays citywide that let you pose like you’re on a Nat Geo magazine cover.

Eight large yellow rectangles, which evoke the borders seen on every Nat Geo magazine cover, will be placed in quintessential spots, so you can take a cover-worthy pic. NBC Washington and The Weekend Scene newsletter have the exclusive on the full list.

The National Geographic Society’s D.C. headquarters has been around since 1888. The years-long renovation project expanded the museum sixfold, to more than 100,000 square feet. More than 650 “Explorer objects” are housed inside.

Highlights include the revamped Pavilion entrance, The Archives exhibit highlighting how the magazine is made and a showcase of larger-than-life animal photography.

Museum tickets cost $29.99 for adults, $25.99 for seniors and $22.99 for youth aged 5 to 17. Admission is free for kids 4 and under. Last we checked, tickets were almost sold out for the opening weekend.
