16-year-old fatally shot at Woodbridge car meetup

A 16-year-old has died after he was shot at a car meetup early Saturday in Woodbridge, Virginia, authorities say.

The teen was found shot and wounded in the 14100 block of Crossing Place at about 2 a.m., Prince William County police said.

“The investigation revealed there was large car meet at the location when a shooting occurred, where the victim, a 16-year-old male juvenile, was struck in the upper body,” police said in a statement.

The teen was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. In an update Monday, police said the teen died. An autopsy determined his death was a homicide.

Where the teen was found off Prince William Parkway, officers found shell casings and “evidence of an altercation.”

“All other parties had dispersed prior to officers arriving on scene,” police said.

Anyone with potentially relevant information – including video – is asked to contact police. No information on a suspect was released, nor was the teen’s name.

At other recent car meetups in the D.C. area, young participants have recorded cellphone video while drivers do doughnuts and stunts in parking lots and intersections.
