A man was shot and killed by a Maryland-National Capital Park Police officer in Prince George’s County on Friday after he was found with a gun in a park, according to police.
Officers received a call shortly after 6 p.m. about a man walking near the river in Fort Washington Park with a gun, according to police.
Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County police officers, and U.S. Park Police arrived at the park to confront the man.
A Maryland-National Capital Park Police officer found a man with a gun near the river, according to police. At some point of their interaction, the officer shoots the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers found the gun near the man after. It is not yet clear what led up to the shooting.
The Maryland-National State Police and the Maryland Office of the Attorney General are investigating.
