A woman is seriously hurt and 85 people are displaced from their homes after a fire at an apartment complex in Southwest D.C. on Tuesday.
The fire broke out in the 100 block of Galveston Street SW before 5 p.m. Images show smoke pouring out of the complex.
A woman was taken to a hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, the fire department said. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
The fire affected 46 units and damaged the electrical system of six buildings.
A total of 57 adults, 28 children and 23 pets were displaced. Residents of 28 units were assisted with other housing.
Information on the cause of the fire was not immediately released. Repairs to the damaged electrical system may take several weeks, officials said.
