A plastic bag ban will go into effect in Montgomery County starting Jan. 1. For the most part, disposable plastic bags won’t be available in stores anymore.
County officials want you to BYOB – bring your own bag – to reduce waste and help the environment.
If you get to the store and realize you forgot your reusable bags, paper bags will still be an option. But the price will double from a nickel to a dime each.
There are exceptions: You’ll be able to get plastic bags for items such as meat, seafood and fresh produce.
Reactions were mixed among shoppers News4 spoke with.
“It’s 2025. It’s time to move on. So, paper or your own or you gotta just take a couple trips and carry it all out yourself,” one man said.
“I’m not bringing anything with me,” another man said about not wanting to bring his own reusable bags. He said he’ll opt for paper.
Some municipalities are not participating in the bag ban. For full info, check the county website.
