Major construction on Metro’s Red Line will put three stations out of service this summer.
From July 6 to Sept. 7, trains will not operate between the North Bethesda and Friendship Heights stations, Metro said.
Free shuttle buses will replace trains at the Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center and Bethesda stations.
During construction, daytime Red Line trains will operate every 6 minutes between Shady Grove and North Bethesda and between Friendship Heights and Glenmont, Metro said. Trains will be every 8 minutes on weekends.
Shuttle buses will run every 5 to 8 minutes during operating hours.
Metro said riders will be able to take an express shuttle directly between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights. A local shuttle will also be available to take passengers to North Bethesda, Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center, Bethesda and Friendship Heights.
The construction project includes:
- Creating a second mezzanine at the Bethesda station to integrate the MTA Purple Line.
- Replacing tiles and slab edges at the Grosvenor-Strathmore station platform and adding new lighting.
- Replacing the raised railway across Rockville Pike between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Medical Center stations.
