A champion cornhole player who is also a quadruple amputee was indicted on murder charges in Charles County, Maryland.
A grand jury approved charges against Dayton Webber, 27, in the death of his friend Bradrick Michael Wells, who also was 27.
Webber is charged with first-degree murder, which carries a possible life sentence, along with reckless endangerment and weapons charges.
Investigators say Webber shot and killed Wells during an argument inside a car in La Plata on March 22. They say Webber then dumped Wells’ body and fled to Virginia, where he was arrested.
Webber’s attorney says he acted in self-defense. But prosecutors said there’s no evidence to back that up.
“Based on the investigation that we’ve seen and from the witnesses’ statements and everything, we see no evidence of self-defense,” Deputy State’s Attorney Karen Piper Mitchell said.
“This is not a question of who. Both parties agree that Dayton Webber shot Bradrick Wells. As to the why, that’s where we are in dispute,” she said.
News4 profiled Webber when he was 11 years old about playing sports despite physical challenges. He lost his arms and legs as a baby after a blood infection.
