Loudoun crash victim dragged into car, driven to hospital by another driver

The Loudoun Sheriff’s office is looking for people who may have more information about what led up to an unusual incident last week.

On Thursday around 5 p.m., a bleeding woman was seen laying in the road near the intersection of Farmwell Road and Hemingway Drive in Ashburn, Virginia. Deputies say a man picked her up, dragged her into his vehicle and drove off.

Police cars and detectives responded to an initial report of a pedestrian struck by a GMC vehicle. When they arrived, there was no victim and no striking vehicle.

Dispatch conversation captures the unusual events that unfolded just before first responders arrived:

“Pedestrian struck. The Subject in a GMC struck a female and then dragged her into the car — Correction, struck her with his car and then dragged her into the vehicle. Children were also inside of the vehicle.”

Witnesses also told investigators the woman was bleeding from a head wound.

“It did seem pretty serious from the amount of people there,” said Mason Lee, a Broad Run High School student who came upon the scene walking home from school. “They closed the road, they put up caution tape and everything, so it was like very, you could tell something kind of went down.”

Police began checking nearby medical facilities and found the victim had been brought to Inova Loudoun in the Lansdowne area about four miles away, according to dispatch audio.

The Loudoun Sheriff’s office says the victim received serious injuries. They put a post up
on social media Friday seeking witnesses who saw what led up to the woman being in the road. Deputies describe the vehicle the woman was placed in as a black 2014 GMC.

Residents who watched the investigators at the scene also are wondering what exactly happened here.

“Definitely sounds like a mystery,” said Alicia Robinson, an Ashburn resident. “I mean, detectives left and right. I’ve heard there was someone who picked her up. The fact there are still questions, something is not right.”

News4 went to the victim’s apartment Monday. A neighbor said the victim has a GMC vehicle with a license plate matching the one witnesses saw leaving the scene. The neighbor says the woman also has two young children.

News4 asked the sheriff’s office if the man driving the truck and the victim are related but has not heard back.

No charges have been filed in the case, but the sheriff’s office says this is not considered a case of abduction.
