Prince George's County Planning Board chair resigns

Darryl Barnes, chair of the Prince George’s County Planning Board confirmed to News4 I-Team that he has resigned his seat.

A complaint first reported by the Baltimore Banner and reviewed by News4 detailed allegations of retaliation, legal and ethics violations against Barnes. The board’s general counsel made the accusations in February in a confidential document shared with News4 by a source with knowledge of one of the ongoing investigations into the claims.

Barnes denied wrongdoing in his conversation with the News4 I-Team.

Barnes was appointed by County Executive Aisha Braveboy in July 2025 and is a former Maryland State Delegate.

The attorney representing the planning board’s general counsel in this matter could not be immediately reached for comment.

The Planning Board supervises the preparation of land use plans and zoning maps, and advises the County Council in these matters. The Board also oversees the Parks and Recreation and Planning Departments.

In Barnes’ resignation letter that he shared with News4, he states that stepping down is in no way an admission of misconduct or a waiver of rights. He states that he does not want the investigation to be a distraction from the work of park and planning.
