Woman killed, man critically injured in Annapolis home explosion

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured after a house exploded in Annapolis, Maryland Wednesday afternoon.

The man — the homeowner — had to be flown to a burn center.

News4 spoke to one neighbor with home surveillance video, which clearly captured the sound of the explosion right from her living room. The camera can also be seen shaking as the loud boom occurs. The neighbor told News4 she first thought it was a tree that fell through her home.

The explosion was so impactful that at least four houses nearby had to be evacuated.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the explosion.

“We are in the process of trying to locate what we believe was the source,” said Assistant Chief Larry Schultz with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. “It was purported that about an hour before the explosion, there was a vendor there to resupply the house with propane. We don’t know that the two are related. That vendor came, supplied the house with its propane, and then left.”

News4 was told the next priority for fire crews is to try and find the propane tank, which may offer more clues about what may’ve sparked this devastation.
